August 5, 2020 — Recent credible threats against human rights defenders who, for many years, have been fighting for justice alongside victims of Liberia’s civil wars are a source of great concern, nine human rights organizations said today.
The trial of Alieu Kosiah, former United Liberation Movement of Liberia for Democracy (ULIMO) commander, has again been postponed by the Swiss Federal Criminal Court.
Due to the rapid spread of COVID-19, and the increasing measures being imposed by the Swiss authorities in response to the pandemic, the Federal Criminal Court of Switzerland has announced that the trial of Alieu Kosiah is postponed.
On October 31, 2019, the Swiss Federal Criminal Court listed the criminal case against Alieu Kosiah, a former commander of the ULIMO, for trial in Bellinzona, commencing on April 14 and concluding on April 30, 2020.
Following the arrest of Alieu Kosiah on the 10th of November 2014 as well as five years of investigation regarding his implication in the First Liberian Civil War (1989- 1996), the OAG has announced that Kosiah’s case will go to trial.
