About us

Founded in Geneva in 2012, Civitas Maxima is one of the few organisations in the world dedicated exclusively to supporting victims of genocide, torture, war crimes and crimes against humanity in their pursuit of justice, particularly when that justice must be sought far from home.

Our team of lawyers and investigators works alongside a network of local partners in the countries where the crimes occurred. Together, we document atrocities and support prosecutors and courts in jurisdictions where accountability is possible. Since 2012, our work has contributed to landmark convictions in Switzerland, France, and the United States — and to the first criminal proceedings for crimes committed during the Liberian civil wars.
